This article will tell you various home remedies to treat dry mouth. Dry mouth is a state where the mouths dry due to the lack of saliva production. Dry mouth also known as xerostomia in doctor’s language is common in old age. The saliva hydrates the mouth and controls the fungi and bacteria. However, if the salivary glands do not function properly it can lead infection in the mouth. Dry mouth results in discomfort, problem while swallowing, bad breath, tooth decay and it also affects the dentures. The condition can be cured at home easily by following home remedies to treat dry mouth.

Different Ways to Treat Dry Mouth at Home:

1.) Drink Plenty of Water to Treat Dry Mouth

Dehydration is the prime cause of dry mouth. To cure, this problem drink plenty of water. The water will help in the production of the saliva. To treat the problem, drink 2-3 liters of water every day. It will remove the toxins and hydrates the mouth. Moreover, it will help you to reduce weight and overall health as well.

2.) Avoid Acidic Food to Treat Dry Mouth

During dry mouth avoid consuming the foods, which tend to cause acidity. The acidity will lead to bloating, which can worsen the condition. To avert such condition don’t eat spicy and fatty foods. Make sure you eat healthy food during dry mouth.

3.) Mouthwash to Treat Dry Mouth

Lack of saliva means, more oral infection, since bacteria and fungi float in the mouth. To keep the infection at the bay swish mouthwash around the mouth. It will kill the bacteria and maintain oral health. Use a mouthwash more than 2 times, especially before going to the bed and after having your meal.

4.) Chewing Gum to Treat Dry Mouth

Chewing a gum can also help you to combat dryness in the mouth. It moistens the mouth and keeps the dryness at the bay. However, avoid chewing gum that contains sugar because it is not good for oral and overall health.

5.) Fluoride Toothpaste to Treat Dry Mouth

Change your toothpaste to get rid of the dry mouth. A toothpaste with fluoride will help to deal with the dryness. Other toothpaste will not be able to serve the purpose. Also, keep changing your toothpaste to keep the oral problems away.

6.) Drink Juice to Treat Dry Mouth

Alcohol and caffeinated drinks lead to dry mouth so replace them with the juice. Especially, juice of fresh fruits, which has plenty of Vitamin C. It will help to get rid of the bad breath as well. Moreover, during such problem the person does not feel like eating something because of bad taste. Drinking juice will impart energy and give you a good taste. One glass of juice will be more than enough. Apart from juice consume fresh fruits with a high content of water.

7.) Breathe through Nose to Treat Dry Mouth

Sometimes breathing through mouth also causes the dry mouth. To avoid it breathe through the nose. Make sure you are breathing properly. Breathing through mouth attracts the bacteria, which leads to the infection. Therefore, always breathe through the nose.

8.) Baking Soda to Treat Dry Mouth

Baking soda also helps you to get rid of the dry mouth and bad breath. In a cup of water, add a teaspoon of salt and a tablespoon of sugar. Mix it thoroughly and don’t forget to add a dash of lime juice in it. Drink it regularly  to get rid of dry mouth. You can also make mouth gel with baking soda as well. Apply it in the mouth 2-3 times a day to get rid of the dry mouth.



9.) Celery to Treat Dry Mouth

Celery stimulates salivary glands and helps you to cure the dry mouth. This vegetable is enriched with essential nutrients, which keep you healthy. Munching a celery will combat the bad breath and treat the dryness in the mouth.

10.) Rosemary to Treat Dry Mouth

Rosemary hydrates the mouth and prevents the dryness. Add a teaspoon of rosemary in your mouthwash and  use it regularly. It will keep the dryness at the bay. Plus, it will also cure bad breath. You can also, use rosemary oil for swishing. It will kill the bacteria and fungi growing in the mouth. Alternatively, mix a tablespoon of dried rosemary with 1 tablespoon of mint in half cup of water. Boil this solution, steep it for a while. Strain it and use the solution to gargle.

11.) Fennel to Treat Dry Mouth

The other home remedy, which can help you to get rid of the dry mouth is fennel seeds.The flavonoids present in the fennel seeds promotes a flow of saliva. Moreover, the aromatic flavor of the fennel seeds treats the bad breath. Take a handful of fennel seeds after the meal, it will definitely solve your problem. Ir mix equal amounts of fenugreek seeds and fennel seeds. Roast this mixture and add a pinch of salt to it. Consume a half tablespoon of this mixture after the meal.



12.) Parsley to Treat Dry Mouth

Talking about the oral problems, how can we forget parsley? The vegetable is loaded with wholesome benefits. It stimulates the salivary glands and improves the taste of your mouth as well. Add parsley, while cooking the food or include it in your plate of salad.

13.) Aniseeds to Treat Dry Mouth

Munch  handful of aniseeds to get rid of the dry mouth and bad breath. To make the best out of it mix fennel seeds and aniseeds and swallow them after the meal.

14.) Cayenne Powder to Treat Dry Mouth

Cayenne pepper helps to stimulate the Slavia production. It also improves the taste also. Add a dash of cayenne powder in a dish, while preparing. Or, rub a powdered cayenne on the tongue. It might cause the tingling effect in the beginning but will surely stimulate the salivary gland. Or consume cayenne pepper capsules. However consult your doctor before doing so.

15.) Aloe-Vera to Treat Dry Mouth

Aloe-Vera is is a time and tested remedy for dry mouth. It improves the taste buds and helps to protect the sensitive tissue of the mouth.To get rid of the dry mouth consume 1/4 cup of Aloe-Vera juice regularly.Or, rinse your mouth with the juice. You can also dip a cotton ball into the Aloe-Vera juice and place it in the mouth. Leave it on for a few minutes then rinse it with cold water.
